Broken Nipple on Pressurized Water Line

A broken nipple caused a significant active leak on a 105 PSI water line. Our team contained the leak with a custom mechanical enclosure and reinforced the surrounding pipe with a multi-layer composite system, allowing the line to be returned to service the same day.

The Problem

A 1-inch nipple had broken completely off a 4-inch water line operating at 105 PSI, creating a significant active leak that required immediate attention. The failure required a repair solution capable of safely restoring the integrity of the pipe and returning the line to service as quickly as possible.

The Solution

Our team installed a custom mechanical enclosure and injected a sealant to contain the leak. The surrounding pipe was then reinforced with a multi-layer composite system and finished with a protective epoxy topcoat to provide long-term environmental protection. The repair was completed by combining mechanical repair methods with composite technology, allowing the line to be repaired directly off the truck during the initial mobilization and returned to service the same day without requiring a shutdown.
