Active Steam Leak on 12-Inch Gate Valve

A 12-inch steam gate valve bonnet developed an active leak while operating at approximately 350°C. Our team performed a live leak repair using drill, tap, and sealant injection methods to fully contain the leak while allowing the valve to remain at full operating pressure without an unplanned shutdown.

The Problem

A 12-inch steam gate valve bonnet developed an active leak while operating at approximately 350°C. The elevated temperature and pressurized conditions required the leak to be repaired safely without shutting down the system.

The Solution

RAK performed a live leak repair while the system remained in operation by peening and drill, tapping, and injecting a sealant into the bonnet flange to secure the leak. Our team fully contained the leak allowing the valve to remain at full operating pressure. The repair was verified to ensure reliable, leak-free operation without requiring an unplanned shutdown.
