Confined Space Pipe Reinforcement in Flooded Vault

RAK repaired a deteriorated 24-inch process line inside a flooded vault by draining the area, preparing the surface, and applying a layered fiberglass and carbon fiber composite system. The repair restored and exceeded the pipe’s original strength, fully sealing the line and providing long-term reliability in a harsh, confined environment.

The Problem

A 24-inch process line inside a flooded vault showed multiple areas of wall loss and deterioration. Access was confined, the line was active, and the repair required full surface preparation and structural reinforcement capable of performing long-term in a harsh environment.

The Solution

After draining the vault and preparing the surface, deteriorated sections were stabilized and rebuilt using a layered fiberglass and carbon fiber composite system. Carbon fiber has a tensile strength many times higher than steel, allowing the repair to restore full structural integrity and exceed the original steel strength rating across the damaged span. A protective coating system was applied after curing, and the line returned to service fully sealed with long-term reliability.
